Ice dam claims can cause a lot of property damage. The tedious and often times downright dangerous removal of these ice damns compounds the risk to property owners. This is another reason to hire a licensed contractor to remove your ice dam and to have a clear contract in place at the time of removal. The removal of this ice damn is often not covered under the homeowners insuring policy, but the ensuing damages from the loss may have coverage under the policy.


This can be a common misconception as insureds may call their insurer for coverage and upon hearing that there is no coverage for the removal off the ice dams they may assume there is no coverage for the damaged property from the ice damn. You may need to obtain and read your policy to know if this is the case.
